Douglas J. Milne
Douglas J. Milne grew up in Jacksonville, attending Fishweir, West Riverside, John Gorrie, and Lee High School where he was selected as a delegate to Florida Boys State, and the YMCA World Youth Conference in Hilversum, Holland. In 1965 he graduated from the University of the South (B.A. History), where he was president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a member of Blue Key Honor fraternity. In 1968 he graduated from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.
He attends St. Marks Episcopal Church and is a chalice bearer and reader. He is an adjunct professor at the Florida Coastal School of Law and serves as a chairman of the Jacksonville Legal Aid Foundation, where he has volunteered legal services for over 30 years. He is a member of Christian Lawyers Association.
Milne is a current director or trustee of many civic organizations including Jacksonville Historical Society, Jacksonville Urban League; Christian Professionals Resource; and Ida M. Stevens Foundation. He is a member of West Jacksonville Rotary Club, the Riverside Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Morocco Temple. He is a past president of Leadership Jacksonville; Willing Hands; Volunteer Jacksonville; Jacksonville Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Northeast Florida Sierra Club; UNF College of Health Advisory Council; Freedom’s Foundation, the Ritz Theatre, and Vice Chair of the Edward Waters College Board of Trustees, from which he holds an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
Milne has received many civic awards including the Jacksonville Civic Round Table Outstanding Leader Award; Mary L. Singleton Award for Justice, Peace And Social Harmony; Robert Shircliff Rotary Service Above Self award; Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge George Washington Honor Medal; Leukemia Society Community Service Award; Character Counts in Jacksonville Golden Rule Award; Jacksonville Urban League Equal Opportunity Award; National Conference of Christians and Jews Humanitarian Award; Volunteer Jacksonville Bernard Gregory Servant Leader Award; the Summit District Civitan International Humanitarian Award; the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Equal Justice Award; and the Kessler Mentoring Connection Mentor of the Year.
His most special interests are his wife, Nora; (6) children and their families, which include (12) grandchildren: the lights of his life. He also enjoys photography (Note: his photographs in this website) and most all outdoor activities.
For many years, Milne practiced with Ronald Buckingham, who passed away in 2018. Mr. Buckingham was an exceptional teacher and source in developing much of Milne’s skill levels, legally and philosophically.
